Within the creeks close to Marseille, 37 metres underwater, lies the one submerged cave on the planet that is coated with cave work. On its damp partitions, individuals have painted horses, bison, ibex and even penguins – animals that have been current within the south of France throughout the Ice Age. The oldest work date again some 27,000 years.
