Quick Info:

  • 2022 Kirkland Signature Côtes de Provence Rosé, Provence, France   ($7.99 @Costco in California – Merchandise #1133993)

One other good worth low cost from Costco – the 2019 classic of this wine was $9.99.  A 20% discount in worth, in an period of inflation, is as refreshing as this wine is.

However don’t wait if you’re serious about stocking up on this magnificence for summer time.  Two issues I’ve observed currently at my native Costco: one, the wine set is noticeably smaller and two, these Kirkland Signature bottlings appear to be flying off the cabinets.  We had deliberate to buy and overview the KS Rioja after a few of you reported seeing it in shops and by the point we went to buy some bottles, there have been none available.  We will search solace right here with this magnificence…

For my tastes, the perfect rosés come from Provence. They’re dry, restrained and completely refreshing. Drawback is, they are often costly. It’s uncommon to search out one for below $10. Heck, it may be tough to search out one for below $20!

A few vital caveats apply.  You’ll find cheaper ones that aren’t from the present classic. However rosés usually are not constructed to be aged.  So if it doesn’t come from the latest classic (within the case of the northern hemisphere, that may be 2022) then proceed with warning. And if it comes from the southern hemisphere and it says 2022, perceive that makes the wine six months older nonetheless. In different phrases, a 2021 rose from Australia, say, is 2 years previous.

The opposite vital caveat is that the conventional guidelines of the wine market don’t apply as uniformly once we are speaking about wines from Costco. As the biggest wine retailer on the planet, Costco breaks all the foundations that it may bend.  This implies your wine greenback will get stretched, in a great way.

The mix is essentially much like previous vintages, but it surely has been tweaked to be of 37% Grenache, 29% Cinsault, 10% Syrah, 7% Carignan, 7% Tibouren, 6% Vermentino and 4% Ugni Blanc.

Better of all, this wine is nearly as good as previous vintages, however it’s being bought a the cheaper price we have now ever seen for this wine.  Have we moist yer whistle?

Bottle and glass of the 2021 Kirkland Signature Côtes de Provence Rosé. Giddy up and get some…

Tasting Notes:

Within the glass, the wine pours a pale copper/salmon colour with good readability.  There are notes of roses, strawberries and crimson raspberries on the nostril. Within the mouth it’s all strawberry rhubarb pie and hints of the aforementioned fruits plus citrus and rosehips. It additionally has a little bit of minerality and salinity that makes for good palate cleaning.  Clear, crisp and dry – it is a wine that begs for summertime, when the residing is simple!

Provençal wine comes from the French wine-producing area of Provence in southeast France. It’s there within the blue shaded area beneath:

A map of the unbelievable wine range to be discovered by exploring France.

Wine as been made on this area for not less than 2,600 years. Immediately the area is thought predominantly for its rosé wines, which account for greater than half of the manufacturing of Provençal wine, with crimson wine accounting for a couple of third of the area’s manufacturing. The Côtes de Provence (which interprets to: the hills of Provence) is the biggest AOC adopted by the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence.

If this missive finds the temperatures heat the place you’re, be sure you put a great chill on this bottle of rosé.  Stress-free with a tall pour. Repeat. It will likely be simply the ticket to protecting your cool.
